The 1st International Congress on Web Studies aims to explore the social dimension of Web applications as well as the interaction and co-existence of humans with artificial agents ­ interfaces, algorithms, information architectures ­ forming socio-technical hybrids that are increasingly difficult to dissect.

After The Net (2.0) responds to the documentary film The Net by artist Lutz Dammbeck, and the once utopian promises of the Internet. Like the film, the exhibition explores technological systems of control and presents art works that draw attention to histories of network culture: from cybernetics to free and open source software, and Web 2.0, including social networking platforms such as Second Life.
